I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFETY: BO-GUSTAV EKLUND
Work Supervisor, Euroports Pietarsaari

1. How is occupational safety present in your work and your days?

Occupational safety is an important part of our work every day. We record anomalies and review them in our everyday operations. We always make safety checks at our worksites. Examples that are particularly noteworthy are accommodation ladders, traffic routes, cargo holds and loading areas.

In wintertime, you also need to pay attention to, for example, the sanding of the slippery areas, and visibility, especially when it is dark.

2. Which features are highlighted in safe and ecological traffic in the port area?

Here at Euroports, flashing warning lights are used in all vehicles. When you move between worksites, you always use the shortest possible route. Just like in all traffic, everybody needs to follow the speed limits and other traffic rules in the port area.

Continuous VHF-connection at a worksite between the machinery and the stevedores working on foot improves safety even more. The connection also helps in any possible abnormal situations.

In addition to safety, paying attention to sustainable development is a part of our daily operations. We can avoid excess strain on the machinery and the environment by using different combinations of machinery.

3. How do you secure the safety of yourself and others when you are moving in the port area?

We always try to avoid cross-traffic in loading areas, different machinery operating in the same area, and we make sure that pedestrians do not move in an area where machinery work is being completed.

It is also important that contractors, subcontractors, and others who move in the area always know the safest routes.
