Despite the current global container market challenges, X-PRESS Feeders started a new liner service between Rotterdam and Rauma this summer. X-PRESS Feeders is the largest independent container feeder operator in the world.
"The opening of liner traffic to Rauma strengthens the position of Euroports Containers Oy and Rauma as one of Finland's largest container operators and ports. The substantial investments made in Rauma over the last few years, will enable a considerable growth of container traffic when the global situation normalises. Rauma's sea channel has been deepened to 12 metres, the container quay has been extended to a length of more than 500 meters and equipped with a new container crane. The field space in general has expanded, so the operational readiness of the port of Rauma is suitable for increased container traffic. Rauma will once again have a weekly connection to both Rotterdam and Wilhemshaven ports thanks to the X-Press Feeder, which is an excellent addition to the routings offered by Rauma," says Commercial Manager Mikko Fagerström.
“Our weekly service to/from Rotterdam and Wilhelmshaven offers a unique independent solution for our joint customers with Euroports Rauma”, says Sven Siemsen, Senior Marketing Manager at X-Press Feeders in Hamburg. “Port of Rotterdam is an important harbour for deep sea transhipment and short sea connections, and we are excited about the development potential Rauma offers. Wilhelmshaven's attractiveness as a transshipments port increases as the sizes of the vessels continues to grow. X-Press Feeders covers an open-to-everyone connection to six ports over Wilhelmshaven and a total of 24 ports over the Hamburg – Le Havre range.”
More than 90 per cent of container traffic in Finland is handled in three ports (HaminaKotka, Helsinki and Rauma) and by three largest port operators. The Port of Rauma is the largest container port on the West Coast of Finland. In 2021, a total of 210,000 container units (TEU) were transported through the Port of Rauma.
