During the day, the staff had the opportunity to practice responding to accident situations under the guidance of professional rescuers. According to the Euroports Container Oy's business unit manager Aleksi Lahti, the day was very successful and provided the staff with the skills to handle unexpected situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI originally got the idea for the accident drill when I was considering our preparedness in the event of an accident and how we could improve it. Based on this, we started planning the drill together with Miia-Maria Vieno (QHSE Expert) and the safety representative. After that, we began planning the execution together with the rescue department, and they were eager to join in right away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the drill, participants rotated through activity stations around the port area. The stations of the day were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rescue from work machinery: How to safely extract a person, such as someone experiencing a medical emergency, from various types of work machinery. Additionally, knowledge was exchanged on the equipment available for use in an accident situation by both the rescue department and Euroports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rescue from a ship's hold: How to access an injured person in the difficult-to-navigate hold of a ship and how to evacuate them safely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hanging from fall protection gear: What dangers are associated with this situation and how a person can be assisted before they can be rescued.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the drill was to enhance the rescue department's knowledge of Euroports' machinery and potential operational hazards. Additionally, the aim was to improve employees' preparedness to assist someone experiencing a medical emergency before rescue authorities arrive and to support the rescue authorities during the actual rescue operation. The day received positive feedback from both the staff and representatives of the rescue department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"The active participation of the staff, along with the professionalism of the rescue department trainers and their excellent training sessions and execution, made an impression on me, and the drill's objective was achieved,\" Aleksi Lahti
